Portfolio > To What Remains: An Installation

These photographs have been encased in layers of wax. This hand manipulation is my strive to hold onto these memories, for they are bound to this ephemeral reality.

"To What Remains"

Emerging from personal history.
A need to keep,
a need to control,
to contain,
to make forever.

Forever changing.
Forever fleeting.
Fragmenting and disintegrating.
Frail.
The past, only a trace.
Time - obscuring memory.

Aging, forgotten.
Lost in a haze of diluted shadows and forgotten breaths.
Unraveling and detaching.
An attempt to grasp what is salvageable.
A presence that is no longer known or remembered.

A strive to enshrine.
Make tangible.
More real.
An act of entombment,
validating who I once was.

How I once loved.
How I once pained.
Today, a foreigner to myself.

Our minds - forever enslaved by this transitory truth,
disjointing with every heartbeat.

And I,
endeavoring to keep them forever here -
to what remains.
